Richmond Spiders Head To URI In Chase Of A10 Title

RICHMOND, Va. – This weekend, the Richmond women's indoor track and field team heads to the University of Rhode Island to compete in the 2016 Atlantic 10 Championships.
Leading the Spiders will be senior Janel Francis, who will be competing in three events this weekend (60m, Long Jump, Triple Jump). Francis will be looking to take first place in the 60m after last weekend's impressive performance finishing in second with a time of 7.88 seconds.
Senior Jade Gregory, who will be running the 500m and the distance medley relay, will be hoping to make her mark at the A10 Championships this year. Gregory has finished in second place in the 500m at the last two A10 indoor championships and will be aiming for first place this time around.
The Spiders will be looking to continue their history of success in the distance medley relay (dmr). Richmond have won three of the last four dmr races at the indoor championships.
In the long distance, Courtney Thompson looks to continue her impressive season. Thompson will be running both the 3000 and 5000 meter races. Having already picked has one 5000m win this season, finishing first at the Thundering Herd Invitational with a time of 17:17.29, Thompson will be aiming to pick up some crucial points for the Spiders this weekend.
The Spiders, who finished in second place in the 2015 indoor championships, will be competing against 13 other Atlantic 10 schools for the title. The Spiders main competition will be the defending champs and cross-town rivals, VCU. Also in the hunt will be George Mason, who tied for second with Richmond last year, and UMass.
