04/17/2016 | Women's Lacrosse
DAVIDSON, N.C. – It took nearly 13 minutes for either team to score in a back-and-forth contest on Sunday afternoon, as host Davidson was able to score two of the three second-half goals and take a 6-5 win over the University of Richmond women's lacrosse team.
Davidson opened the scoring with 17:11 left in the first half to take a 1-0 advantage, but the lead was short-lived, as Richmond's Hope D'Orsi buried a free-position shot to tie the game with 14:05 left to play.
Kim Egizi scored her first goal of the afternoon to give the Spiders a 2-1 lead just over a minute later, but the Wildcats won the ensuing draw and scored within 11 seconds to tie the game at two goals apiece.
Natalia Chaney won the lead back for the Spiders with a free-position goal with 9:41 left to play in the first half, but Davidson responded with back-to-back goals to take a 4-3 advantage with just under five minutes left in the half.
Egizi scored her second goal of the game with nine seconds left in the half to tie the game entering the break, 4-4.
The Wildcats were able to score within the first two minutes of the second half to lead Richmond, 5-4, and scored again just under eight minutes later to take the largest lead of the game for either team.
Brooke Wilson scored for the Spiders with seven minutes left to play, but it wouldn't be enough, as Davidson (7-6; 4-2 A-10) would hold off Richmond (5-8; 1-5 A-10) for the remainder of the game to take a 6-5 win in Atlantic 10 Conference play.
The Spiders return to action at home next Friday, April 22, as they host nationally-ranked Massachusetts. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
