Spiders Fall Short At Saint Joseph's, 11-7

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Hitting the road for the first time since the start of Atlantic 10 action, the University of Richmond women's lacrosse team couldn't overcome a seven-goal spurt by Saint Joseph's in an 11-7 road loss on Friday evening.
Five different Spiders found the back of the net, led by freshman Mia Castagnero and senior Brooke Wilson with two apiece.
“We didn't come out ready to play a full game,” Head Coach Allison Kwolek said. “St. Joe's stuck to their game plan that caused us to struggle finding lanes to the goal.”
Richmond (5-5, 1-2 A-10) jumped out to a 2-0 lead with Hope D'Orsi scoring off of a Wilson assist and Castagnero converting a free position attempt, but the Hawks scored seven straight goals to close the first half and begin the second.
With Saint Joseph's (3-8, 2-1 A-10) leading 7-2, Wilson scored her first goal of the game off of an assist from Kim Egizi with 20:11 left in the game. Less than three minutes later, Castagnero scored her second goal of the game to make the score 7-4 in favor of the Hawks.
Each team scored once again, with Wilson notching her second for Richmond, with just over 17 minutes left in the game, but the Hawks rattled off three consecutive goals to take an 11-5 lead with 4:43 left to play.
Richmond closed out the game with goals from Marissa Brown and Aly Fries, who was assisted by Emily Newman.
“We're still trying to find our way to putting together a full 60 minutes,” Kwolek added. “We need to learn from this setback and reset quickly for Sunday.”
The Spiders return to A-10 action this Sunday, April 10, when they travel to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to take on Duquesne. Game time is set for 12 p.m.
