DAYTON, Ohio – For the third in the past six games, the University of Richmond baseball team found itself involved in a one-run contest.

In the Atlantic 10 opener for both teams, Dayton used a late two-run rally to pull out a 6-5 win over the Spiders.

Dayton got on the board first with a pair of runs in the first, and they added a run in the next frame behind a solo shot from Nick Ryan to take a 3-0 lead.

Brumbaugh's RBI single drove in D.J. Lee for the first Spider run of the day before Jonathan de Marte crushed his first career homer to clear the bases and put Richmond ahead 4-3 in the top of the third.

Richmond added an insurance run in the fourth when Tim Miller scored off a RBI double from classmate Justin Cook.

After Dayton jumped out to an early lead, Robbie Baker settled in on the hill and held them scoreless through three frames before the Flyers pushed on across in the sixth, to cut the Spiders' lead to one, 5-4.

The Flyers threatened in the home half of the seventh, but the Spiders held them off to preserve their one-run lead. However, Dayton would not go quietly as they got two across in the home half of the eighth to take a 6-5 lead, which would secure the Flyers the victory in the A-10 opener.

Due to inclement weather moving into the Dayton area on Sunday, tomorrow will now be a doubleheader with the first game starting at 11:00 a.m.
