Richmond Finishes Play At ITA Atlantic Regionals

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team finished the fall season by competing at the ITA Atlantic Regionals from Oct. 12-14 hosted by Liberty University. Sophomore Emily Dunbar (Medina, Ohio) made it to the round of 16 in singles.
On Friday in the flight A draw, junior Kiana Marshall (Bridgetown, Barbados) pick up two wins to advance to the quarterfinals. Marshall won in the third set against West Virginia's Giovanna Caputo, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. Marshall took down Mila Saric from William & Mary, 6-4, 6-3, in the round of 16.
Junior Lea Owens (Olney, Md.) won in straight sets against Delaware's Adetayo Adetunji, 6-2, 6-4. In the round of 16, Owens lost to Viva Laas (Delaware), 6-3, 6-4.
Junior Dessi Zlateva (Sofia, Bulgaria) fell to Marshall's Madison Ballow, 6-1, 2-6, 7-6 (7-4). Zlateva won the second set 6-2 but lost a tough third set tiebreaker 7-6 (7-4). Zlateva defeated Anna Dollar (Liberty), 6-4, 3-6, 10-5 in the flight A consolation bracket.
In the doubles draw, sophomore Dunbar and Marshall lost to Virginia's Hunter Bleser and Camille Favero, 8-5.
On Saturday, Dunbar earned a 6-4, 6-4 win against Virginia Tech's Rita Pinto in the first round of the main singles draw.
Marshall, qualified for the main draw after two wins on Friday, but lost to Gabby O'Gorman from Penn State, 6-4, 7-5.
On Sunday, Dunbar fell against Virginia's Camille Favero in three sets, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4, in the round of 16.
The Spiders finished the fall season and will face William & Mary in their first dual match of the season on Jan. 15 at 2 p.m. in Williamsburg.
