Spiders Welcome Maryland Eastern Shore Wednesday Night

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team returns home to host Maryland Eastern Shore on Wednesday, Nov. 14, at the Robins Center at 7 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The University of Richmond women's basketball team fell to 0-3 on the season after a 62-48 road loss at Wake Forest on Sunday, Nov. 11. Sophomore Alex Parson scored a season-high 18 points off 8-for-22 from the field. Parson grabbed a career-high nine rebounds and came away with two steals. Junior Jayana Ervin added eight points and three steals. Junior Amy Duggan finished with five points and grabbed five rebounds off the bench.
The Spiders led 13-9 after the first quarter thanks to hot shooting from Parson who scored nine points in the opening quarter. Richmond jumped out to a 17-9 lead in the second quarter but Wake Forest responded with a 18-2 run to lead 27-19. Wake would outscore Richmond 25-10 in the second quarter. The Spiders played a solid fourth quarter but fell on the road 62-48.
UR ended the game shooting 30.8 percent (20-for-65) and only 21.7 percent from the three-point line (5-of-23). Richmond was outrebounded 45-34 in the loss.

The University of Richmond women's basketball team will be wearing gold laces against UMES on Wednesday, Nov. 14 to support Lacing Up 4 Pediatric Cancer to support the Go4theGoal Foundation to help kids battling cancer. Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer began in the fall of 2011. Since then, professional, college and youth teams have participated in raising funds and awareness for the No. 1 disease killer of children. To date, over 350,000 athletes have Laced Up to show their commitment to the fight against pediatric cancer. Go4theGoal works to improve the lives of children battling cancer by providing financial assistance, granting special wishes, developing unique hospital programs, and funding innovative research. The last time these two teams met Richmond picked up a 78-53 win in the 1994-95 season opener on Nov. 28, 1994. The Spiders defeated Maryland Eastern Shore in their only meeting all-time and came away with 21 steals, setting a new Robins Center record that stood for eight years before tying it with 21 steals against Duquesne on Feb. 1, 2002. Carole Detollenaere finished with eight steals, third-best mark in school history.
100 YEARS OF RICHMOND WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
The University of Richmond will celebrate its 100th season of women's basketball during the 2018-19 season. Richmond has had 24 1,000-point scorers in their history. The most recent being Micaela Parson with 1,401 points during her four-year career from 2014-18. Head coach Michael Shafer has coached 10 1,000-point scorers. The Spiders have been to the NCAA Tournament three times (1990, 1991, 2005) and have made nine WNIT appearances, including a final-four run falling to Creighton, 81-72, on March 27, 2004. The Spiders have earned nine wins all-time at the WNIT Tournament. UR will host a alumni celebration game against La Salle on Feb. 24 at 2 pm.
JAYANA ERVIN COMING UP WITH STEALS
Junior college transfer Jayana Ervin has eight steals in three games for the Spiders. Ervin came away with three steals in her Richmond debut against Georgetown, earned two steals against Fairfield and tied her season-high with three steals at Wake Forest. Ervin finished her career at Harcum College, second all-time in steals with 253 in two seasons.
