Richmond Ready For Home Battle Against Fairfield

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team will host Fairfield on Friday, Nov. 9, at 2 p.m. inside the Robins Center.
LAST TIME OUT
The 2018-19 season started with a tough loss to Georgetown, 73-53, at the Robins Center on Tuesday, Nov. 6. Junior Jaide Hinds-Clarke led the team with 11 points and five rebounds in the loss. Four other Spiders finished with seven points in Jayana Ervin, Emma Squires, Alex Parson and Kailyn Fee. The Spiders outscored Georgetown 37-22 in the third and fourth quarters combined.
Richmond was outrebounded 45-31 and gave up 12 offensive rebounds to the Hoyas. The Spiders made a late run in the fourth quarter off a 9-0 run but Georgetown held on for the victory. Eight Spiders played for the first time gaining valuable minutes in the home opener.
The starting five of Hinds-Clarke (11 pts.), Daijia Ruffin (4 pts.), Ervin (7 pts.) Squires (7 pts.) and Parson (7 pts.) scored 36 of the 53 points in game one.
LAST TIME VS. FAIRFIELD
The last time these two teams met Richmond earned a 72-67 road win in Bridgeport, Conn. on Nov. 10, 2017. Kailyn Fee and Alex Parson each scored in double-figures in their first-ever collegiate game. Fee led the team with 16 points off four three-pointers and Parson added 10 points with two three-pointers. Amy Duggan made her first career-start and grabbed eight rebounds in the win. Richmond shot a blistering 46.7 percent (7-for-15) from long range. The Spiders improved to 3-1 all-time against Fairfield with the win last season.
100 YEARS OF RICHMOND WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
The University of Richmond will celebrate its 100th season of women's basketball during the 2018-19 season. UR has had 24 players score 1,000 points or more in school history. Only two Richmond players scored over 2,000 points in Brittani Shells (2007-11) and Karen Elsner (1981-85). The Spiders have been to the NCAA Tournament three times (1990, 1991, 2005) and have made nine WNIT appearances. UR will host an alumni celebration game against La Salle on Feb. 24 at 2 pm.
SHAFER WINS 200TH
With a win over UMass on Feb. 15, 2017, Michael Shafer became the first coach in program history to reach the 200-win milestone. With win No. 200 he is just the seventh coach in Richmond athletic department history to reach that number joining men's basketball coach Chris Mooney and women's tennis coach Mark Wesselink as the only other active Spider coaches with at least 200 wins. He also joins Cindy Griffin at Saint Joseph's as the only active A-10 coaches to reach that number at their current institution.
