Richmond Heads To Quinnipiac For Final Non-conference Road Trip

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team will play its final road game in 2018 when they face mid-major power Quinnipiac on Wednesday, Dec. 19, at 5:30 p.m.
The Spiders are coming off a comeback win against Howard, 67-60, on Dec. 8 and will be looking to snap a four-game road losing streak.
LAST TIME OUT
The University of Richmond women's basketball team improved to 2-7 on the season with a 67-60 win against Howard, their second-straight home victory. The Spiders used a strong fourth quarter to earn the comeback win outscoring the Bison, 25-13. Richmond scored the final nine points of the game, including a clutch jumper by Jaide Hinds-Clarke with the shot clock at one second off an inbounds play with 37 seconds remaining.
Kailyn Fee led the team with 16 points, all scored in the first two quarters. Alex Parson added 15 points, 13 scored in the fourth quarter off 3-for-3 from the three-point line. Jayana Ervin scored a season-high 12 points off the bench with six rebounds, four assists and three steals. Madelyn Neff finished with a season-high 10 points and went 3-for-3 from downtown.
The Spiders finished with season-highs in points (67), field goal percentage (43.4), three-point percentage (52.4), 3-pointers made (11) and assists (16).
FEE FOR THREE
Sophomore guard Kailyn Fee is starting to heat up after scoring a season-high 16 points against Howard on Dec. 8. Fee scored all 16 points in the first two quarters and led the team in scoring. Fee went 4-for-9 from the three-point line and dished out a season-high four assists. In her last two games since removing her face mask (to protect broken nose), she is shooting 53 percent off 8-for-15 from the field. Fee led the team with 65 three-pointers last season and has hit 9 in nine games this season.
STARTING LINEUPS
The Spiders have had six different starting lineups in their nine games and only one has started all nine games in sophomore Alex Parson. Junior Jaide Hinds-Clarke has started seven of nine games. Freshmen Emma Squires and Molly Mraz have started five games, Daijia Ruffin and Jayana Ervin have started four games. Freshman Aniyah Carpenter has started four games, junior Amy Duggan with three starts along with Imani Mustaf and Kailyn Fee with two starts apiece. With so many new faces, Richmond hasn't had a set rotation having played 14 different players this season.
TWO-STRAIGHT HOME WINS
The Spiders have won their last two home games defeating Maryland Eastern Shore 57-55 on Nov. 14 and a comeback win against Howard 67-60 on Dec. 8. Richmond scored a season-high 67 points against the Bison and rallied behind a strong fourth quarter outscoring Howard 25-13, including a 9-0 run to end the game.
LAST TIME VS. QUINNIPIAC
The last time these two teams met Richmond fell to the Bobcats, 81-65, on Dec. 1, 2017. The Spiders only trailed by five points (39-34) after the second quarter but couldn't rally in the final two quarters. Former Spider Micaela Parson led the team with 25 points, surpassing 1,000 career points in the game. Alex Parson added 12 points in the loss. Quinnipiac was 26-for-34 from the free throw line. The all-time series between the two teams is 1-1. The only other meeting came on Dec. 29, 1999 where Richmond won a neutral site matchup 87-50 at the LaSalle Invitational Tournament.
