Spiders Drop Road Game At Quinnipiac

HAMDEN, Conn. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team had a cold shooting night in a 65-48 road loss at Quinnipiac Wednesday at the People's United Center.
The Spiders fall to 2-8 on the season and Quinnipiac improves to 5-5 with the win. Richmond finished the game shooting just 29.1 percent from the field and only 24 percent from the three-point line (6-for-25). The Spiders were outrebounded 53-33, including 21 offensive rebounds.
Junior Jaide Hinds-Clarke (Westwood, N.J.) led the team with 10 points off the bench. Freshman Molly Mraz (Erie, Pa.) added nine points off three three-pointers off the bench. Sophomore Alex Parson (North Chesterfield, Va.) finished with seven points and two steals. Junior Amy Duggan (Norwood, Mass.) pulled down a career-high 14 rebounds.
The Spiders played much better offensively in the third and fourth quarters after being held to just 11 points after two. Richmond scored 19 points in the third quarter and 18 in the fourth.
Richmond jumped out to a 4-0 lead after back-to-back jumpers from sophomore Kailyn Fee (Vienna, Va.) and freshman Aniyah Carpenter (Baltimore, Md.). The Bobcats scored the final 13 points in the first quarter to lead 13-4 after one.
Richmond missed their final 10 shots, including 0-for-3 from the three-point line. The Spiders again started the second quarter hot cutting the lead to 13-11 after a 7-0 run.
Fee and Carpenter hit three-pointers to get the Spiders within two points with 5:12 left in the second quarter. Quinnipiac went on another big run scoring the final 13 points again to take a 26-11 lead into the locker room.
Carpenter led the team with five points and Fee added four points.
In the third quarter, the Spiders cut the Bobcats lead to 29-19 after a layup by junior Jayana Ervin (Tacoma, Washington) with 7:01 on the clock. Quinnipiac answered with a 12-4 run to pull away 42-23 with two minutes remaining in the third quarter.
Entering the fourth quarter, Richmond was trailing 45-30 and couldn't get much closer. Quinnipiac outscored the Spiders, 20-18 in the final quarter. Mraz scored all of her nine points in the quarter going 3-for-4 from the field, including three triples.
The Spiders return home to host undefeated Ohio on Saturday, Dec. 22, at 2 p.m. inside Robins Center.
