Richmond Falls To Undefeated Ohio

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team lost against undefeated Ohio, 109-58, Saturday afternoon at the Robins Center. Sophomore Alex Parson (North Chesterfield, Va.) finished two points shy of tying her career-high with 25 points with five rebounds.
The Spiders fall to 2-9 on the season and Ohio remains unbeaten at 10-0. The Spiders finished the game shooting 29 percent from the field and was shot 25.8 percent from the three-point line. Ohio hit 16 three-pointers and finished the game at 58 percent from the field (40-for-69). The Bobcats starting lineup combined for 90 points.
Parson set a season-high with 25 points off four three-pointers and was 5-of-6 from the free throw line. Freshman Madelyn Neff (Hayward, Wis.) added nine points in her first start. Junior Amy Duggan (Norwood, Mass.) finished with seven points and five rebounds.
The Spiders were solid from the free throw line going 10-for-13 in the contest.
Richmond played one of its best quarters of the season outscoring undefeated Ohio, 18-17, in the first. Parson helped the Spiders get off to a fast start with two three-pointers in the first four minutes to give Richmond a 6-5 lead.
Neff, making her first-career start, hit a three-pointer to push Richmond's lead to 11-5 with 5:38 left on the clock.
The Bobcats answered with a 6-0 run to tie the game at 11-11 off a three-pointer by Dominique Doseck. Neff responded with her second three-pointer of the quarter to give the Spiders a 14-11 lead.
With 1:37 remaining in the first, Richmond held a 18-13 lead but Ohio ended the quarter with back-to-back layups to cut the advantage to 18-17.
In the second quarter, Richmond kept fighting after Parson hit her third three-pointer of the game to get within 27-25. Ohio went on a 6-0 run to go up 33-25 off a three-pointer by Gabby Burris.
The Bobcats pulled away late in the second quarter thanks to a bunch of three-pointers to make the score 49-34. Parson led the team with 11 points after two quarters.
Ohio extended their lead with a 31-6 third quarter thanks to 5-for-8 shooting from the three-point line. The Spiders couldn't get much going offensively hitting just one shot on 14 attempts. Ohio's Gabby Burris had 13 points in the third quarter alone.
Richmond was outscored 29-18 in the fourth quarter but kept battling throughout the final frame. Parson led all scorers and finished with 12 points off 4-for-9 shooting in the final quarter.
The Spiders remain home to face Drexel after a seven-day holiday break on Saturday, Dec. 29, at 2 p.m. inside Robins Center.
