Richmond Continues Home Slate Against Drexel

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team will remain home to face Drexel at the Robins Center on Saturday, Dec. 29, at 2 p.m.
The Spiders are 2-3 at home this season and will finish non-conference action against UNCG on Jan. 2 at 7 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The University of Richmond women's basketball team fell to 2-9 on the season after a tough home loss to undefeated Ohio, 109-58. Sophomore point guard Alex Parson finished with a season-high 25 points and hit four three-pointers.
The Spiders led 18-17 after the first quarter but Ohio responded with 32 points in the second quarter. Richmond shot just 29 percent off 20-for-69 from the field. The Bobcats hit 16 three-pointers off 16-for-29 attempts.
Freshman Madelyn Neff made her first collegiate start and scored nine points with four rebounds. Junior Amy Duggan had seven points and pulled down five rebounds. Graduate Student Daijia Ruffin led the team with six rebounds.
Richmond finished with only six points in the third quarter against Ohio and only hit one shot off 14 attempts.
PARSON SCORES SEASON-HIGH 25 POINTS AGAINST OHIO
Sophomore guard Alex Parson scored a season-high 25 points, two points shy of tying her career-high with 27 points, in a loss against Ohio. Parson hit four three-pointers and was 5-for-6 from the free throw line. Parson added five rebounds and played a team-high 36 minutes.
100 YEARS OF RICHMOND WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
The University of Richmond will celebrate its 100th season of women's basketball during the 2018-19 season. The best season in Richmond women's basketball history came in the 1990-91 season when they earned a school-record 26 wins. The Spiders won the CAA Tournament and went on to the NCAA Tournament for the second-straight season. Richmond finished the season 11-2 in their last 13 games. The Spiders have been to the NCAA Tournament three times (1990, 1991, 2005) and have made nine WNIT appearances, including a final-four run falling to Creighton, 81-72, on March 27, 2004. The Spiders have earned nine wins all-time at the WNIT Tournament. UR will host an alumni celebration game against La Salle on Feb. 24 at 2 p.m.
LAST MEETING VS. DREXEL
This will be the third all-time meeting between the two teams with the series tied at 1-1. In the previous meeting, Drexel earned a road win 67-52 on Nov. 20, 2009, at the Robins Center. Richmond's Brittani Shells scored a team-high 15 points and current assistant coach Kara Powell (Casey), added13 points. Drexel's Gabriela Marginean became the school's all-time leading scorer after finishing with 22 points. In the first meeting, Richmond came away with a 73-60 road win after Shells scored a career-high 30 points. The Spiders were 10-1 to open the season in 2008-09, their best start since the 2004-05 season.
