Spiders Open Home Schedule With an 11-5 Win Over Towson

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The Spider Baseball team opened the home schedule with an 11-5 victory over Towson Friday afternoon. The win marks head coach Tracy Woodson's 100th career win with the Spiders.
Every player in the Spider lineup scored at least one run.
Richmond got on the board first when D.J. Lee crossed the plate on a passed ball. Kyle Adams singled through the left side to get things started in the second, and scored on Anthony Forte's sac fly to give the Spiders a 2-0 advantage.
The Spider bats got hot in the third as they pushed across five runs in the inning. Adams got things started with a sac fly. Jordan Schulefand hit a two-run double and Sage Bruhl crushed a two-run homer to cap things off in the inning and extend Richmond's lead to 7-0.
Towson avoided the shutout as they scored four runs in the fifth to cut Richmond's lead to three, 7-4. The Spiders responded in the bottom half adding two runs to go ahead, 9-4.
The Spiders tacked on a pair of runs in the in eighth to take a seven-run lead, 11-4. Towson wasn't going to go quietly as they looked for opportunities and added a run in ninth, but Richmond was able to secure the 11-5 victory.
Tim Miller went a five innings in his second appearance of the season logging eight strikeouts in his outing.
The Spiders continue the series with Towson tomorrow. First pitch is set for 12:00p.m.
