Spiders Dominate William & Mary 15-1 To Close Non-Conference Play

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's lacrosse team closed out the non-conference portion of the regular season with a commanding 15-1 win over visiting William & Mary Saturday evening at Robins Stadium. The Spiders' 14-goal victory is their largest of the season and the largest since a 15-1 win last year against St. Bonaventure.

The victory improves the Spiders to 6-2 on the season and 3-0 at home at Robins Stadium. Seven different Spiders scored in the victory with junior Katie Sciandra leading the way with four goals, while Marissa Brown added a hat trick. Sciandra raises her season goal total to 26 and marked the third time this season that Brown has scored three goals, matching her efforts against American and Holy Cross.

Kim Egizi, Katie Trainer and Julia Schmuckler each added two goals in the win for the Spiders. Egizi ran her total to 25 goals on the season and 127 on her career. Senior Caroline Queally and freshman Jordan Ricciardi added individual goals in the win with Ricciardi's goal being the first of her career.

The Spiders came out of the gate quickly, scoring six goals in the first half, including three in the first nine minutes of the game. Trainer opened the scoring with her fifth of the year before Brown tallied a goal at the 22:11 mark. Sciandra added her 23rd of the year just 24 seconds later as the Spiders opened a 3-0 lead, forcing a William & Mary timeout.

Richmond continued its dominant play as Egizi tallied her 24th of the year. Queally and Schmuckler rounded out the first half scoring as the Spiders took a 6-0 lead to the locker room. Elsa Rall recorded 11 saves in the opening 30 minutes for the Tribe. Â

Richmond continued its strong play in the second half, out-scoring the Tribe 9-1 in the final 30 minutes, including the first five of the half in the opening nine minutes. The Spiders out-shot William & Mary by a 41-13 margin in the victory.

The Spiders open Atlantic 10 Conference play Thursday evening as they host rival VCU. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. at Robins Stadium.
