Spiders Defeat Binghamton Sunday, Win Series

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The Spider Baseball team won the rubber match with Binghamton on Sunday, 6-4.
Jordan Schulefand and Daniel Brumbaugh hit back-to- back singles in the second to spark the Spider offense. An RBI single from Justin Cook drove in Schulefand and gave Richmond a 1-0 lead.
The Spiders loaded the bases in the fourth and extended their lead to 5-0. Vinny Carpa drove in the first run of the inning after drawing a bases loaded walk. A sacrifice fly from Sage Bruhl brought in Brandon Johnson before and a Tim Miller double capped off the scoring.
Robbie Baker went five innings on the hill, allowing five hits and no runs while logging five strikeouts. Binghamton avoided the shutout with a run in the sixth and one in the seventh. Richmond responded with a run of their own as they capitalized on a Bearcat error. Collin Lowe struck out the side in the top of the eighth, as he matched his career-highs (2.0) and strikeouts (3) with his relief appearance.
The Bearcats weren't going to go quietly as they made it interesting in the ninth. Binghamton loaded the bases and scored two runs but the Spiders secured their victory .
Richmond will wrap-up its eight-game homestand with VMI on Tuesday afternoon. That game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
