Spiders Fall in Midweek Action to Liberty, 6-5

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The Spiders fell in midweek action to in-state rival Liberty, 6-5.
The Spiders struck first on a two-run single from D.J. Lee and a Flame miscue to grab a 3-0 advantage in the first. Liberty responded with a pair of runs and cut Richmond's lead to one, 3-2.
Behind an Anthony Forte triple and an RBI single from Vinny Capra, the Spiders took a 5-2 advantage heading to the third. With Forte's triple, he has now broken into the single season top-10 with four.
Collin Lowe was efficient in his four innings of work. The right-hander allowed just one hit and matched his career-best strikeouts with five.
Liberty got one back in the fifth with a solo homer from D.J. Artis. The Flames tacked on two in the sixth to tie it up at 5-5. Liberty continued to rally and grabbed a one-run lead, 6-5 in the seventh. The Spiders continued to look for opportunities, but the Flames held on.
The Spiders are set to return to Atlantic 10 action this weekend for a three-game set at George Washington. The series begins on Friday at 3PM.
