Egizi Leads Spiders to 18-11 Win over George Mason

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – Senior Kim Egizi scored six goals and added five assists to lead the University of Richmond women's lacrosse team to a dominant 18-11 win over George Mason on Sunday afternoon at Robins Stadium.

The Spiders' 12-2 start to the season ties for the best start in program history, while the 6-0 start in Atlantic 10 play also ties for the best start.

Egizi's 11 points in the win tie for the most in a single game in Spider Lacrosse history, and are the most since Emily Doyle's 11 in 2015.

Junior Katie Sciandra started the scoring with a free position goal, before Egizi scored her first of the day, also from the eight-meter mark.

Mason bounced back with a free position goal of their own, but Julia Schmuckler and Aly Fries each tallied a goal to extend the Spider lead to 4-1. The Patriots would go on to score two-straight, before the Spiders rattled off six-straight goals – three from Egizi and one each from Sciandra, Katie Trainer and Marissa Brown – to end the half.

Mason came out and scored twice to open the second stanza, but Rachel Ziemba scored on a low percentage wrap-around shot after assisting on three goals in the first half.

The Patriots looked to mount a comeback, as Chachi Kelehan scored a hat trick in less than a minute to cut the lead to 11-8, but the Spiders shook it off and went on to score seven-straight goals of their own over the next 15 minutes. Trainer, Egizi and Fries each scored twice, while Sciandra scored once.

The Patriots ended the game with three goals, but the Spiders left the field with the 18-11 A-10 win.
