Home Runs Power Richmond to 13-6 Win Over La Salle

La Salle struck first with a run in the top of the second. The Explorers' lead was short-lived as the Spiders went on a hit parade in the bottom half of the inning. Richmond scored seven runs on six hits, capped by a three-run homer from Adams to go ahead 7-1.
A solo home run from Brumbaugh extended the Spiders' lead. La Salle got one back in the top of the fourth thanks to a pair of doubles in the inning. The Explorers added a run in the top of the sixth to cut Richmond's lead to five, 8-3.
Forte sparked another big inning for the Spiders in the sixth with a solo shot to extend the Spiders' lead to 9-3. Kyle Schmidt delivered a single to the gap in left center to drive in Michael Strait before Brumbaugh drew a bases loaded walk to allow Tyler Plantier to cross the plate. A sacrifice fly from Justin Cook scored Adams to cap off the inning making it a 12-3 ball game. La Salle got one back in the top of the seventh but Richmond controlled the scoreboard, 12-4.
Richmond's hot hitting continued as Schulefand hit his first collegiate home run in the seventh to cushion the Spiders' lead, 13-4. La Salle wouldn't go quietly as they tacked on two runs in the ninth, but it wouldn't be enough as the Spiders took game one of the series.
The two teams are set to continue the series tomorrow for Senior Day. The Spiders' six seniors will be honored at 12:30 p.m. with first pitch coming at 1:00 p.m.
