Spiders' Battle With #3 North Carolina Falls Short Tuesday

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Just a season ago, the Spiders battled the Heels to the wire. Tuesday night was no different as Richmond went toe-to-toe with #3 North Carolina. Richmond's battle came up short on Tuesday as they fell to UNC, 6-2.
The Tar Heels grabbed a 1-0 lead after the first inning, but their lead was short-lived as the Spiders tied it up in the third on an RBI groundout from D.J. Lee to bring in Brandon Johnson. North Carolina threatened in the bottom half of the inning, but Brendan McGuigan ended the inning with a strikeout.
Behind back-to-back doubles from Lee and Daniel Brumbaugh in the fifth, Richmond jumped to a 2-1 lead. The Heels responded in the sixth with two runs crossing the plate to go ahead 3-2. UNC tacked on two more in the seventh and one in the eighth to go ahead 6-2.
It's a quick turnaround for the Spiders as they return to action tomorrow (Wednesday, May 8) at Longwood. First pitch in Farmville is set for 6:00 p.m. and will be streamed for free on the Big South Network.
