Spiders Drop A-10 Contest at VCU
09/21/2018 | Field Hockey
RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond field hockey team scored twice in the first half to tie the game, but it would not be enough to overcome a powerful VCU offense that ended the game on a 5-0 run for a 7-2 win on Friday afternoon.
Â
The Rams scored two early goals off of penalty corners to take a 2-0 lead, but Elise Zwicklbauer logged her team-leading fourth goal of season when she took the ball along the circle off a free hit and sent it past the VCU goalkeeper.
Â
Just minutes later, Hannah Loos scored her first goal of the season when she collected the rebound off of Nealy Henderson's shot and sent it into the goal to tie the game.
Â
VCU would not go away, as the Rams scored the final two goals of the half to take a 4-2 lead into the break.
Â
Despite offensive momentum for the Spiders through mush of the second half, the Rams managed to score three more times \for the 7-2 A-10 win, including a goal off of a penalty stroke. Emily Braunewell finished with eight saves in goal for Richmond.
Â
The Spiders will round out the weekend with a nonconference home game against ACC foe Wake Forest on Sunday, September 23. Game time at Crenshaw Field is set for 12 p.m.
