Richmond Begins Two-Game Road Swing At Davidson

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team will begin a two-game road swing starting at Davidson on Wednesday, Jan. 16, at 7 p.m. inside Belk Arena.
The Spiders are looking to snap a six-game road losing streak when they face the Wildcats. Richmond is 3-13 with an 0-3 Atlantic 10 record.
LAST MEETING VS. DAVIDSON
This will be the 8th all-time meeting between the two teams with Richmond holding a 5-2 advantage. In the previous meeting, the Spiders earned a 62-53 win in the first round of the 2018 Atlantic-10 Championship. Former Spider Micaela Parson scored 30 points off 10-for-17 from the field in her final game at the Robins Center. The Spiders jumped out to a 21-8 first quarter lead and never trailed in the win. Richmond avenged an earlier loss in the regular season to Davidson 68-65 on Jan. 14, 2018.
CARPENTER PROVING BENCH SPARK
Freshman guard Aniyah Carpenter has given the Spiders a huge lift off the bench in her last four games averaging 12.0 points per game. The Baltimore native scored a career-high 14 points against UNCG and added 11 points in a loss at Fordham. Carpenter tied her career-high with 14 points off the bench against VCU. Carpenter is shooting at a high percentage as well at 44.2 percent (19-for-43) and a blistering 47.4 from the three-point line (9-for-19).
LAST TIME OUT
The University of Richmond women's basketball team fell to 0-3 in Atlantic 10 play after a 68-43 lost to crosstown rival VCU on Jan. 12 inside the Robins Center. The Spiders only trailed by four points after two quarters, 26-22, but VCU took over in the third and fourth quarters. The Rams outscored Richmond, 20-11 in the third and 22-10 in the fourth.
Freshman Aniyah Carpenter tied her career-high with 14 points off 6-for-12 from the field and junior Jaide Hinds-Clarke added 13 points with eight rebounds. Sophomore Alex Parson, the Spiders' leading scorer, was held to seven points and 1-for-6 from the three-point line. Richmond was held under 50 points for the second-straight conference game.
VCU outrebounded the Spiders, 39-25 and scored 32 points off the bench, including 13 from Danielle Hammond. Richmond only shot 33.3 percent from the field and were just 4-of-20 from the three-point line.
