Hinds-Clarke Ties Career-High In Loss At Davidson

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Junior Jaide Hinds-Clarke tied her career-high with 17 points but the University of Richmond women's basketball team couldn't overcome a strong fourth quarter in a 78-55 loss at Davidson Wednesday night at Belk Arena.
Hinds-Clarke finished 7-for-11 from the field and pulled down seven rebounds in the loss. Freshman Aniyah Carpenter (Baltimore, Md.) scored 13 points earning a start after coming off the bench in the last five games. Carpenter had 10 points in the third and fourth quarters.
The Spiders committed a season-high 28 turnovers and Davidson scored 33 points off those turnovers. The Wildcats also had 35 bench points in the win. Richmond shot 36.4 percent from the field and only hit 5-for-15 from the three-point line.
Hinds-Clarke scored a team-best 11 points with two rebounds to kept Richmond within nine points after two quarters. The Spiders had trouble with turnovers committing 16 in the first two quarters allowing Davidson to score 17 points off those turnovers.
In the first quarter, the Wildcats took a 5-0 lead before a jumper by sophomore Alex Parson (North Chesterfield, Va.) put the Spiders on the board.
Richmond took their first lead at 9-7 off a layup by Hinds-Clarke with 4:59 remaining in the quarter. Davidson closed the first quarter on a 10-2 run to take a 17-11 lead.
The Wildcats opened up a 28-16 lead after a three-pointer by Fitzgerald with 5:30 left on the clock in the second quarter. The Spiders answered with a 10-0 run to get within two points at 28-26 off a jumper by Hinds-Clarke.
Davidson again ended the second quarter on a 7-0 run to lead 35-26 at halftime. Sophomore Kailyn Fee (Vienna, Va.) added five points off 2-for-3 shooting.
In the third quarter, Richmond was outscored 14-10 with Daijia Ruffin (Louisville, Ky.) scoring four points. With 8:09 left in the third, Hinds-Clarke got the Spiders within five points at 35-30.
Davidson answered with a quick 8-0 run to open their lead back to 43-30 at the five-minute mark in the third quarter. Richmond could not get any closer.
The Wildcats opened the fourth quarter with a three-pointer from Katie Turner and never looked back. Davidson would lead by as much as 26 points but Carpenter would score eight points in the final two minutes to make the final score 78-55
The Spiders remain on the road with an Atlantic 10 matchup against Duquesne on Saturday, Jan. 19, at 2 p.m.
