Richmond Welcomes Saint Joseph’s For Pride Night

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team returns home after a two-game road trip last week and will host Pride Night, a celebration of diversity of inclusion, in its matchup against Saint Joseph's on Wednesday, Jan. 23, at 7 p.m.
The Spiders are hoping for a home court advantage against the Hawks and are looking to snap a five-game losing streak to start Atlantic 10 conference play.
SPIDERS HOST PRIDE NIGHT AGAINST SAINT JOSEPH'S
The University of Richmond will host its second edition of Pride Night, a night of diversity and inclusion. The campus office of UR LGBTQ, a division of Common Ground, has partnered with the athletics department for this special event for a second-straight season. Student groups are encouraged to attend as Pride Night hopes to unite our community across our differences and celebrate the diversity of cultural life of our institution.
LAST MEETING VS. SAINT JOSEPH'S
This will be the 22nd meeting all-time between the two teams with Saint Joseph's leading the series 15-6. In the previous meeting, Saint Joseph's earned a 81-72 win in Philadelphia on Jan. 10. Micaela and Alex Parson combined to score 39 of the 72 points. The game was on national tv on NBCSN. The Hawks led by 15 points at halftime but the Spiders never got closer than nine points. Richmond will look for its second-straight win at the Robins Center after defeating Saint Joseph's, 70-52, on New Years' Eve on Dec. 31, 2016.
CARPENTER CONTINUES TO PRODUCE FOR THE SPIDERS
Freshman guard Aniyah Carpenter has scored in double-figures four times in five Atlantic 10 conference games. Carpenter finished with 12 points at Duquesne (Jan. 19) and tied her career-high with 14 points against VCU on Jan. 12. Carpenter is averaging 11.8 points per game during conference play and is shooting 42.9 percent from the field (21-for-49). Carpenter also has hit a three-point in all five conference games shooting 50.0 percent from deep off 10-for-20.
LAST TIME OUT
The University of Richmond women's basketball team fell behind 20-9 in the first quarter against Duquesne eventually falling 80-54 on the road. The Spiders are 3-15 overall and are 0-5 in Atlantic 10 action. Freshman guard Aniyah Carpenter scored 12 points and junior Jaide Hinds-Clarke added nine points and seven rebounds.
Richmond shot 88.2 percent from the free throw line going 15-of-17. Hinds-Clarke was perfect going 5-for-5 at the free throw line and Carpenter finished 5-for-6 at the charity stripe. Freshman Madelyn Neff grabbed a career-high seven rebounds and had a career-best three blocks.
The Dukes had three players in double-figures with Chassidy Omogrosso leading the way with 16 points off the bench. Richmond was outrebounded 51-31 and Duquesne scored 41 bench points in the win.
