Swim and Dive Competes on the First Day of the Thomas Murphy Invitational

BALTIMORE, Md. – Richmond swim and dive was back in the pool Friday evening at the Thomas Murphy Invitational, hosted by Loyola University. After the first of three sessions, the Spiders are currently in fourth of the five team meet. Johns Hopkins currently leads the invite after scoring 273.5 points, followed by West Chester at 218, Drexel at 180, Richmond at 178 and the host Greyhounds scored 151.5 points.
The Spiders scored their first points of the evening with a second-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay. The quartet of Hannah Gouger (Cockeysville, Md.), Sara Green (Tega Cay, S.C.), Maggie Purcell (Southampton, N.Y.) and Lauren Medlin (Cary, N.C.) turned in a time of 3:47.08.
Purcell set a high mark in the 200 IM for the second-straight meet. She finished with a 2:05.64 time to take first in the event. Teammate Ellie Ronan (Marblehead, Mass.) took second with a time of 2:07.34.
The 800-freestyle team of Gouger, Medlin, Eliza Manning (Frederick County, Md.) and Purcell earned a third-place finish with a time of 7:44.12.
Richmond is back in the pool tomorrow. The first session of the day will begin at 10 a.m., with another session coming in the afternoon.
