Richmond Faces Road Test At Georgetown

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team will conclude its three-game road trip to start the season at Georgetown on Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. at McDonough Arena.
SQUIRES SCORES CAREER-HIGH AT CHARLOTTE
Sophomore Emma Squires, playing in just her 19th career game, scored a career-high 19 points off 7-for-11 shooting at Charlotte on Nov. 9. Her previous high was 10 points twice last season. Squires also hit three three-pointers and didn't miss a single basket from two-point range (4- for-4). Squires had two steals and went 2-for-2 from the free throw line.
LAST MEETING VS. GEORGETOWN
This will be the 18th meeting between the two teams with Georgetown leading 10-7 in the all-time series. In the last meeting, Georgetown earned a 73-53 win to open the 2018-19 season in the Robins Center on Nov. 6, 2018. Four Hoyas finished in double-figures with Dorothy Adomako led the team with 14 points. Dionna White scored 11 points along with Mikayla Venson (11 points) and Morgan Smith (11 points). Georgetown used a strong opening quarter outscoring Richmond 20-7 and 21-9 in the second quarter to lead 41-16 at halftime. Jaide Hinds-Clarke led the team with 11 points and grabbed five rebounds. The last time the Spiders won on the road at Georgetown was a 62-60 win on Dec. 4, 2003.
FRESHMAN ELAINA CHAPMAN CONTINUES TO MAKE AN IMPACT
Freshman Elaina Chapman (Richmond, Virginia) came off the bench and scored nine points and grabbed five rebounds in a 70-62 road win at UNCG on Tuesday, Nov. 5. Chapman was 4-for-6 from the field and made her only free throw of the game. She also impacted the game defensively with two blocks and three defensive rebounds. Chapman added seven points and grabbed four rebounds in a loss at Charlotte.
LAST TIME OUT
The University of Richmond women's basketball team fell to 1-1 on the season after a 78- 59 road loss at Charlotte on Nov. 9. The Spiders were led by sophomore Emma Squires who scored a career-high 19 points off 7-for-11 shooting. Richmond outrebounded the 49ers, 34-30, but were outscored 48-24 in the paint. Charlotte got 45 bench points in the win thanks to 19 points from Octavia Jett-Wilson. Jade Phillips scored 17 points, grabbed nine rebounds and dished out six assists as a starter. The Spiders shot 38 percent from the field (19-for-50) and 23.8 percent from the three-point line (5-for-21). Richmond fell behind 34-22 at halftime and couldn't recover. Squires was the only player in double-figures with 19. Aniyah Carpenter and Jaide Hinds-Clarke each scored nine points. Richmond lost the turnover battle with a season-high 26 miscues.
NON-CONFERENCE ROAD TRIPS
The Spiders will be on the road for seven of the first 10 games of the season. Richmond opens the season with three-straight road games at UNCG (W, 70-62), at Charlotte (L, 78-59) and at Georgetown (Nov. 12). Richmond will also face Drexel (Nov. 24), Coastal Carolina (Nov. 29), Maryland Eastern Shore (Dec. 5) and a neutral site game against Bradley on Dec. 1. In order for the Spiders to turn things around they need to start learning how to win on the road after going 1-13 away from Robins Center in 2018-19.
