Field Hockey Secures No. 3 Seed in Atlantic 10 Championship, Faces Off With UMass Friday

The University of Richmond field hockey team wrapped up Atlantic 10 play at 6-2, finishing in a three-way tie for second place and securing the No. 3 seed in the 2019 Atlantic 10 Tournament.

The A-10 Tournament, which will be hosted by the Spiders at Crenshaw Field for the first time since 2014, will take place this coming Friday and Saturday, November 8 and 9, beginning with Friday's semifinal round.

Richmond will face off against No. 2 seed UMass, which also finished 6-2 in Atlantic 10 play and won out in the three-way tie with the Spiders and Lock Haven based on goal differential between the three teams. The Spiders and Minutewomen will compete at 2 p.m. following the first semifinal between No. 1 seed Saint Joseph's and No. 4 seed Lock Haven at 11 a.m. The winners of the two semifinals will play in Saturday's A-10 Championship game, which is set for 1 p.m.

The Spiders took down the Minutewomen during the 2019 regular season with a 2-1 win in Amherst, breaking a three-game losing streak to UMass that dated back to 2016. The Minutewomen won the last A-10 Tournament meeting between the two teams, winning 3-1 in the semifinal round at VCU's Cary Street Field in 2016.
