Richmond Faces Maryland Eastern Shore In Non-Conference Tilt

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team looks to keep its fast start going with a 5-3 record eight games into the 2019-20 campaign and will face Maryland Eastern Shore on Thursday, Dec. 5, at 6 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
Richmond went 1-1 at the Coastal Carolina Thanksgiving Tournament in Conway, South Carolina. The Spiders gave Coastal Carolina their first loss of the season in a 79-67 win after hitting a season-high 13 three-pointers. In the tournament finale, Richmond fell just short against Bradley, 61-57. The Spiders cut the Braves' lead to one-point with one-minute remaining but couldn't get any closer.
Sophomore Emma Squires scored a career-high 22 points in a win at Coastal Carolina. Kate Klimkiewicz added 16 points and 10 points in her two games. Freshman Elaina Chapman pulled down a season-high nine rebounds against Bradley. Junior guard Alex Parson had her two best games of the season with a season-high 18 points against Coastal Carolina and 15 points against Bradley.
The Spiders are 5-3 after only winning nine total games in 2018-19.
ABOUT MARYLAND EASTERN SHORE
Maryland Eastern Shore is 2-5 on the season with both wins coming against non-division I opponents in Wesley College (W, 75-29) and Greensboro College (W, 65-48). The Shore has lost their five games by 15 points or more to William & Mary (L, 78-50), Syracuse (L, 65-50), UNCG (L, 86-48), Virginia Tech (L, 86-43) and ECU (57-42). Junior guard Amanda Carney leads the team in scoring at 9.7 points per game. Sophomore Brooklyn Bailey is third on the team at 8.1 points per game, including a career-high 25 points against Greensboro College.
PREVIOUS MEETING WITH THE SHORE
Richmond earned a 57-55 win against Maryland Eastern Shore on Nov. 14, 2018 at the Robins Center. The Spiders picked up their first win of the season after a tough shooting night (4-for-29 from the three-point line). Jaide Hinds-Clarke posted a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Graduate student Daijia Ruffin scored 17 points off the bench and went 9-for-13 from the free throw line. Richmond is 2-0 all-time against Maryland Eastern Shore. The only other meeting was a 78-53 win at the Robins Center on Nov. 28, 1994.
RICHMOND LEADS THE ATLANTIC 10 IN STEALS
Richmond has 76 steals in eight games, which is 43rd in the nation and leads the Atlantic 10 Conference. The Spiders are averaging 9.5 steals per game and finished with 20 steals in two games at the Coastal Carolina Thanksgiving Classic. The Spiders had 12 steals in the finale against Bradley with senior Jaide Hinds-Clarke coming away with five swipes.
SQUIRES SCORES CAREER-HIGH AT COASTAL CAROLINA
