Richmond Hosts St. Bonaventure For Play4Kay Game
02/12/2019 | Women's Basketball
RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team will host St. Bonaventure for a key matchup Wednesday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m. inside the Robins Center.
PLAY4KAY GAME AGAINST ST. BONAVENTURE
The "pink phenomenon" in women's basketball began during the 2004-2005 basketball season, when Coach Yow's cancer recurred after being in remission for 17 years. Play4Kay is the grassroots fundraising initiative of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. It was originally called Think Pink, later Pink Zone, and most recently and finally, Play4Kay. Women's basketball teams wore pink in honor of Coach Yow and those battling cancer. In 2007, this movement resulted in the establishment of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund and its Play4Kay initiative.
HINDS-CLARKE DOUBLE-DOUBLE MACHINE
Junior Jaide Hinds-Clarke posted her fifth-straight double-double with 10 points and a career-high 19 rebounds at VCU. Hinds-Clarke now has eight double-doubles on the season. She has nine career double-doubles and is second in rebounds per game during A-10 play (10.3). Hinds-Clarke is tied for first in offensive rebounds per game during league play at 3.6.
THE RACE TOWARDS THE NO. 8 SEED
The Spiders are 3-7 in the Atlantic 10 after 10 conference games. Richmond has six games remaining against league opponents but are hoping to host a first-round A-10 Tournament game at the Robins Center (top-eight seeds host). Last season, the Spiders finished 8-8 and finished in eighth place. Richmond still has games against UMass, St. Bonaventure and George Mason.
