
Complete Performance Leads Spiders To 19-3 Win Over Bonnies

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – A first-half shutout by the Spider defense and five goals each from Marissa Brown and Katie Sciandra lifted the University of Richmond women's lacrosse team to a dominant 19-3 win over visiting St. Bonaventure on Sunday afternoon at Robins Stadium.
Brown finished the game with a season-high eight points on five goals and three assists, while Sciandra scored five times with two assists for seven points, also a season high. Madison Ostrick scored on all four of her shots to match her career high of four goals.
The Spider defense managed to shut out the Bonnies for over 40 minutes, led by Julie Ball with two caused turnovers and five ground balls.
The Spiders jumped out to a quick start on offense, as Brown made it 1-0 less than a minute in and Sciandra scored three in a row for an early hat trick with 25:31 to play in the half.
Five different Spiders scored in the opening half, as Sciandra led the way with five first-half goals, followed by Brown and Ostrick with three, Aly Fries with two and Lauren Kingsbury with one to give Richmond a 14-0 lead at the break. Brown and Sciandra also logged two first-half assists, while Sam Geiersbach and Becca Curro each tallied one helper in the opening 30 minutes.
Brown and Curro each scored to open the second half before St. Bonaventure managed to score its first goal of the afternoon with 19:32 to play in the game. Evelyn Roberts scored her second goal of the season less than a minute later before Brown and Ostrick scored their fifth and fourth goals of the day, respectively, to make it 19-1. The Bonnies rounded out the scoring with the final two goals.
The Spiders finished the game with a 38-13 shot advantage and a 16-8 edge in draw controls. Ball and Maddie Finnen each won four draws to lead the team. Megan Gianforte and Danni LeServe spit time in goal, combining for seven saves.
Richmond returns to Robins Stadium on Friday, March 29, for an early 10 a.m. matchup with Duquesne to continue Atlantic 10 play.
