Spiders Look For Revenge In A-10 Tournament First Round At Saint Louis

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team heads back to St. Louis for the first round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament and will face sixth-seeded Saint Louis on Tuesday, March 5, at 8 p.m. eastern time.
SPIDERS OPEN ATLANTIC 10 PLAY ON THE ROAD
The University of Richmond women's basketball team will face sixth-seeded Saint Louis on the road in the first round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament on March 5 at 8 p.m. eastern time. Richmond is 12-17 in A-10 Tournament games and won a first-round game against #9 Davidson last season before losing to No. 1 seed Dayton in the quarterfinals. The Billikens are 1-0 against Richmond in A-10 Tournament games with the only other meeting coming on March 2, 2007 when the Spiders lost 69-61 on a neutral court in Cincinnati, Ohio. Former Spider Johanna McKnight led the team with 16 points.
CLAIRE HOLT A SCORING THREAT IN LAST FOUR GAMES
Freshman guard Claire Holt is averaging 13.5 points per game in her last four games with nine assists and has hit 10 three-pointers (10-for-24). She has started the last three games against La Salle (12 points, five assists), at UMass (14 points) and versus George Washington (10 points). Holt scored a career-high 18 points against George Mason. She also shot 7-for-9 from the free throw line in a win against La Salle.
LAST MEETING VS. SAINT LOUIS
This will be the 16th meeting between the two teams with Saint Louis holding a slight advantage with a 8-7 record. The Billikens have won four in a row in the series, including a 78-48 win at Chaifetz Arena on Feb. 17. The Spiders kept the game close only down 18-16 after the first quarter. Saint Louis stormed ahead by outscoring Richmond, 21-12 and 21-4 in the next two quarters. Senior guard Jordyn Frantz scored a career-high 25 points. Jaide Hinds-Clarke finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
LAST TIME OUT
The University of Richmond women's basketball team ended the Atlantic 10 regular season on a high note with a 56-48 win to end with a 8-7 record at the Robins Center this season. The Spiders went 5-1 in their last six home games and clinched the No. 11 seed in the upcoming A-10 Conference Tournament.
Richmond had three players finish in double-figures with junior Jaide Hinds-Clarke scoring 10 points along with freshman Claire Holt and classmate Emma Squires. Squires tied her career-high with 10 points off the bench. Junior Amy Duggan grabbed nine rebounds and hit two three-pointers.
The Spiders almost led wire-to-wire holding a lead for 36 out of 40 minutes. Richmond scored a season-high 30 points in the paint and had 21 points off the bench. The Spiders shot 45.8 percent from the field (22-for-48) and hit 6-for-10 from the three-point line.
