Spiders And Rams Team Up For Go4theGoal
09/27/2019 | Field Hockey
The University of Richmond field hockey team and its crosstown rival VCU teamed up this past weekend for a good cause, working together to fundraise for the Go4theGoal Foundation, an organization which works to improve the lives of children battling cancer.
Â
The Spiders used their efforts to raise over $4000 for Go4theGoal, which will go toward financial support for families of children with pediatric cancer, as well as funding for innovative research.
Â
"We are very impressed by the team's efforts to support the Go4theGoal Foundation," assistant coach Chaney Eldridge said, who has worked with Go4theGoal over the last two seasons to make the "Lace Up" game a reality. "Raising over $4000 is a testament to how much we believe in supporting their mission of helping kids battling cancer."
Â
This is the second-straight year that the two programs have worked together in this effort, showing the Richmond community and beyond that despite their rivalry, the Richmond and VCU field hockey programs can put away their differences and prioritize helping others.
Â
"We love participating in our annual Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer game with VCU," junior captain Frankie-Lynne Conklin said. "We are super competitive as a team, especially when it comes to raising money for such an important cause. It's an incredibly rewarding experience to know that our team can rally its best efforts to support Go4theGoal's mission."
