Young Spiders Gain Experience At Joe Hunt Invitational

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The University of Richmond men's tennis team earned valuable experience from its young players at the Joe Hunt Invitational hosted by Navy from Sept. 27-29. Freshman Ricky Bell (Rockville, Md.), sophomore Alex Wernink (Glen Cove, N.Y.), sophomore Josh Keitelman (Chevy Chase, Md.) each earn wins at the fall tournament.
Wernink had the best weekend going 3-1 with his only loss coming on the final day against Temple's Austin Gu, 6-2, 6-1. Wernink won two matches in the third set against Cole Tecce (Mary Washington), 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 and Navy's JanOskar Kjellberg, 2-6, 7-5, 6-2.
Keitelman finished the weekend 2-2 with wins against Erik Gran (Youngstown State) and John Rutkowski from A-10 foe St. Bonaventure. Bell earned his lone win against George Mason's Jakob Neilsen, 6-1, 7-6 (5). Bell won a second set tiebreaker, 7-5, to earn the victory.
In doubles, Bell and Keitelman teamed up and went 1-3 with their win coming against FDU's duo Pietsch/Solans, 7-5.
Next up, UR will host the River City Open at the Westhampton Tennis Courts and Collegiate from Oct. 11-13.
