Football Falls At Boston College In Non-Conference Play

Richmond's offense finished the rushing for 215 yards, averaging 4.9 yards per carry. The Spiders now have rushed for 535 yards through the first two games of the year. Redshirt junior quarterback Joe Mancuso (Blairsville, Ga.) led the way with 70 yards rushing, while going 11-of-17 through the air for 124 yards. Freshman Savon Smith (Winchester, Va.) added a career-high 66 yards on 10 carries in the fourth quarter.
Boston College scored on the game's first drive, going 71 yards on six plays, capped by a 46-yard run by wide receiver Zay Flowers. The Eagles would add two more touchdowns in the first quarter, taking a 21-0 lead after the first 15 minutes. Boston College did most of its damage on the ground in the first quarter with star running back AJ Dillon rounding out the third drive with a 2-yard touchdown run.
Richmond would get on the board in the second quarter, converting a 7-play, 75-yard drive for its first touchdown of the day. Mancuso put the Spiders on the board as he connected with graduate transfer wide receiver Keyston Fuller (Griffin, Ga.) on a 35-yard pass making it a 21-7 margin. The touchdown catch was the first of Fuller's career with the Spiders.
Boston College took a 35-10 lead into the locker room at halftime as Anthony Brown connected on a 55-yard pass late in the second quarter. Freshman kicker Jake Larson (Baltimore, Md.) connected on a 36-yard kick in the second quarter after Richmond drove 56 yards on 10 plays. The Eagles rushed for 225 yards in the first half while Dillon accounted for 130 total yards of offense – 76 rushing and 54 receiving in the opening half.
Redshirt junior running back Xavier Goodall (Henrico, Va.) ran for 44 yards on seven carries in the first half as the Spiders accounted for 114 yards on the ground in the first half. Mancuso added 70 yards rushing on 10 carries in the first half and was 9-of-13 through the air for 104 yards, but threw two interceptions.
Redshirt sophomore quarterback Beau English (Stevenson, Md.) came on in the second half and connected on 8-of-9 passing for 25 yards while rushing for 21 yards.
The Eagles grinded out another touchdown in the third quarter, using a 12-play, 65-yard drive, capped by a two-yard Dillon touchdown run to extend the lead to 42-10. An Aaron Boumerhi 30-yard field goal extended the lead to 45-10 in the final minute of the third quarter.
Richmond got back on the board in the final minute as Larson connected on his second field goal of the afternoon, this a career-best 45 yarder to cut the lead to 45-13 with 12 seconds on the clock.
The defense was led by its senior safeties, Daniel Jones (Williamsburg, Va.) and Trent Williams (Chester, Va.). Each tallied 10 tackles, followed by redshirt sophomore defensive lineman Kobie Turner's (Clifton, Va.) seven tackles.
