Richmond Begins Home Stand Against Duquesne

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team hosts Atlantic 10-member Duquesne on Wednesday, Feb. 12, at 6:30 p.m. inside the Robins Center.
ABOUT DUQUESNE
Duquesne is 16-7 overall and is 6-4 in Atlantic 10 play. The Dukes are 5-1 in their last six games with their only loss at Saint Louis 53-50. Duquesne has won three-straight games against St. Bonaventure (W, 58-39), at VCU (W, 79-76) and against Saint Joseph's (W, 53-42). Libby Bazelak leads the team in scoring at 13.6 points per game and has hit a team-best 50 three-pointers. Laia Sole is second on the team with 11.9 points per game and Amanda Kalin is third at 10.1 points per game.
HINDS-CLARKE 1K
Senior Jaide Hinds-Clarke scored eight points and grabbed seven rebounds in the loss against VCU, but her fourth-quarter three-pointer gave her 1,000 career points. Hinds-Clarke is the 25th member of the 1,000th scoring club. Hinds-Clarke scored 12 points at La Salle and moved past Kristina King (2010-14) and Lauren Tolson (2012-17) to sit 23rd on the all-time scoring list.
HOLT SIX-STRAIGHT GAMES IN DOUBLE-FIGURES
Sophomore Claire Holt has been on fire lately scoring 10 points or more in six-straight games. Holt leads the team in scoring in Atlantic 10 play at 14.0 points per game in 10 games. Holt has shot 75.0 percent from the free throw line (30-for-40). The streak started with 10 points against La Salle and has continued against Davidson (14 points), at UMass (13 points), vs. St. Bonaventure (15 points), 16 points vs. VCU and 20 points at La Salle.
SPIDERS SURPASS WIN TOTAL FROM 2018-19
Richmond finished the 2018-19 season with a 9-21 overall record and were 6-10 in Atlantic 10 play. The Spiders ended the season with a loss in the first round of the A-10 tournament at No. 6 Saint Louis, 58-49. In 2019-20, Richmond is 11-13 overall and 4-6 in A-10 play with six league games remaining. The Spiders have already surpassed last season's win total with 11 wins.
HISTORY AGAINST DUQUESNE
This will be will be the 25th meeting all-time between the two teams with the series tied at 12-12. The Dukes have won the last eight meetings, including three at the Robins Center. The last Spider win in the series came on Feb. 22, 2012 in a 59-45 win at the Robins Center. In last year's meeting, Duke earned an 80-54 win after a 20-9 first quarter lead led to a wire-to-wire win. Aniyah Carpenter led the team with 12 points.
LAST TIME OUT
Richmond used a strong third-quarter run of 22-8 to build a four-point lead and held on to a 67-61 win on the road at La Salle on Feb. 9. The Spiders improved to 11-13 overall and are 4-6 in Atlantic 10 play. Richmond picked up its fifth road win of the season.
Four players finished in double-figures with Claire Holt leading the way with 20 points and a career-high nine rebounds. Jaide Hinds-Clarke earned her 12th career double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Alex Parson added 12 points, including a clutch three-pointer late in the fourth quarter. Aniyah Carpenter finished with 11 points off the bench.
The Spiders scored 43 of their 67 points in the final two quarters. Richmond finished with 25 points off 18 La Salle turnovers and had 32 points in the paint. The Spiders also scored 14 fast break points.
