Tierney Scores Six in Spiders’ 18-5 Win Over Camels

RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond freshman Arden Tierney (Port Washington, N.Y.) came out on fire, scoring a career-high six goals in her first game in front of the Robins Stadium crowd Wednesday, helping the Spiders to a 18-5 victory over Campbell.
Richmond (3-0) scored the last 11 goals of the contest and for the second-straight game held their opponent scoreless in the second half.
Tierney also led the Spiders with seven draw controls, as well as a caused turnover and ground ball.
Campbell (0-4) got on the scoreboard first as the squads traded the lead for the first 15 minutes of the game. Marina Miller (Wexford, Pa.) scored first for the Spiders with her third goal of the season, while Tierney put her first two goals of the game in the back of the net to tie the contest at the 14:56 mark.
The Richmond attack would score the next three straight points, pushing their lead to 6-3. Junior Nicole Concannon (Syosset, N.Y.), redshirt junior Sam Geiersbach (West Babylon, N.Y.) both scored while Tierney finished her first hat trick of the game.
Campbell's Sam Carey picked up the Camels final two goals of the contest on free position shots before the Spiders shutdown their offensive game plan.
Geiersbach tallied six points for the Spiders, collecting her third-straight game with a hat trick, and three assists. She also collected three ground balls and a draw control.
Miller scored twice and collected two assists for four points, as well as three draw controls, one ground ball and one caused turnover.
Concannon and freshman Sophia DiCenso (Foxboro, Mass.) both scored twice, while DiCenso tallied three draw controls.
Freshman Lindsey Frank (Gansevoort, N.Y), senior Julia Schmuckler (New Vernon, N.J.) and sophomore Lauren Kingsbury (Pennington, N.J.) all chipped in a goal and an assist for the Spider offense.
Senior goalie Megan Gianforte (Brielle, N.J.) picked up her third win of the season, making a season-high 11 saves while allowing five goals. She also tallied two ground balls and a caused turnover. With four seasons between the pipes for the Spiders, Gianforte is four shots shy of facing 1,500 career shots.
The Spiders are back in action Saturday at Robins Stadium when they host William & Mary. Open draw is set for 1 p.m.
