Hinds-Clarke’s Career-High Powers Richmond Past St. Bonaventure

OLEAN, N.Y. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team had its largest margin of victory on the season in a 72-58 road win at St. Bonaventure Sunday afternoon at Reilly Center. Senior Jaide Hinds-Clarke (Westwood, N.J.) scored a career-high 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in the win. Hinds-Clarke earned her 14th career double-double.
"I thought this was a great team win," head coach Aaron Roussell said. "One of our better performances of the season and to be able to dribble it out like that was really a cool thing. These kids have really worked hard at this and this was a win we needed."
Richmond (14-14, 7-7 A-10) is back to .500 for the first time since being 7-7 on Dec. 30. Hinds-Clarke finished 8-for-12 from the field and 4-for-5 from downtown. Sophomore Claire Holt (Hoover, Ala.) scored 14 points, 10-straight games in double-figures and sophomore Kate Klimkiewicz (Oakton, Va.) had 13 points. Junior Alex Parson (North Chesterfield, Va.) finished with 10 points.
The Spiders shot 40.3 percent from the field (25-for-62) and 37 percent from downtown off 10-for-27. Richmond also had a season-low five turnovers and outrebounded St. Bonaventure 38-34.
The Spiders took a 36-22 lead after two quarters on the road at St. Bonaventure. Hinds-Clarke was efficient scoring 13 points off 5-for-7 shooting and grabbed six rebounds. Klimkiewicz added nine points and Holt had seven points. Richmond hit six three-pointers and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line.
The Spiders jumped out to a 18-9 lead after the first quarter. Richmond took an early 7-3 lead off a layup from Hinds-Clarke. Holt made a three-pointer to push the lead to 10-5 with 3:03 left in the first quarter. The Spiders ended the quarter on an 8-4 run, including a three-pointer by sophomore Madelyn Neff (Hayward, Wis.) with three seconds left.
In the second quarter, the Bonnies scored the first five points to cut the lead to 18-14. The Spiders answered with a 14-2 run to go ahead 32-16. Richmond maintained a 14-point lead after two quarters after a Holt layup made the halftime score 36-22.
Richmond opened the third quarter with a 7-0 run off a Holt three-pointer, layups by Parson and Hinds-Clarke to push the lead to 43-22. The Spiders outscored St. Bonaventure 22-19 and entered the final quarter with a 17-point lead. Parson scored six points and Hinds-Clarke added seven in the third quarter.
In the final quarter, St. Bonaventure made one last run cutting Richmond's lead to 61-50 after a 9-3 run. With 3:32 left, Parson made a driving layup and hit two free throws to build the lead back to 65-50. Hinds-Clarke hit a jumper to set a new career-high with 2:28 left in the fourth quarter. The Bonnies scored the last five points of the game to make the final score 72-58.
The 14-point point margin of victory is the highest for Richmond this season. The Spiders led wire-to-wire to complete the season sweep of St. Bonaventure. Richmond's starters combined for 52 of the 58 points.
The Spiders return to the Robins Center for Senior Night in the home regular season finale against Saint Louis on Wednesday, Feb. 26, at 6:30 p.m.
