Richmond Concludes A-10 Regular Season At George Washington

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team will conclude the Atlantic 10 regular season with a road matchup at George Washington on Saturday, Feb. 29, at 2 p.m. The winner of the game will host the first round of the A-10 Championship on Tuesday, March 3.
SPIDERS LOOK TO CONTINUE ROAD SUCCESS
The Spiders have one more road game at George Washington to close out the A-10 regular season. Richmond is 7-7 on the road but has won three-straight conference road games at La Salle (W, 67-61), at George Mason (W, 75-70) and at St. Bonaventure (W, 72-58). Richmond has six more road wins than all of last season.
A-10 STANDINGS UPDATE – 1 GAME REMAINS
The Richmond Spiders (7-8) are currently tied for eighth in the Atlantic 10 standings with one game remaining. Richmond owns head-to-head tiebreakers against #6 Davidson (8-7), #7 Duquesne (8-7), #10 La Salle (6-9), #12 St. Bonaventure (4-11) and #13 George Mason (3-12). The Spiders are hoping to finish as one of the top eight seeds to host the first round of the A-10 Championship on Tuesday, March 3. If Richmond wins against George Washington they would host on Tuesday, March 3.

George Washington is 13-15 overall and 7-8 in Atlantic 10 play. The Colonials are tied for the eighth seed with Richmond and the winner of Saturday's matchup will host the first round of the A-10 Championship on Tuesday, March 3. George Washington is led by graduate transfer Alexandra Maund (Yale) who is averaging 11.2 points per game and scored 16 points against Rhode Island. Maund set a new career-high with 27 points in a win against Duquesne on Feb. 22. George Washington has won two games in a row and is 6-7 at home this season.
HOLT HAS TAKEN A STEP FORWARD IN YEAR TWO
Sophomore Claire Holt has been the most improved player in year two at Richmond. Holt averaged 5.2 points per game in her freshman season (2018-19) and has jumped to 11.3 points per game in her sophomore season. Holt is second on the team in scoring (11.3 points per game) and second in three pointers at 42, which is double from her freshman season (21). Holt has dished out 29 more assists and has made 51 more free throws from a season ago. Holt recently had a 10-game double-figure streak snapped against Saint Louis after being held to just seven points.
HISTORY AGAINST GEORGE WASHINGTON
This will be the 43rd meeting all-time between the two teams with George Washington leading the series with a 27-15 record. The Spiders have won the last two meetings, including a 56-48 in the A-10 regular season finale at the Robins Center on March 2, 2019. Jaide-Hinds-Clarke, Claire Holt and Emma Squires all had 10 points apiece. The Spiders also won the last meeting in Washington 49-36 on Feb. 24, 2018.

Richmond had a one-point lead with 15 seconds left but Saint Louis was able to hit some key free throws and held on to a 60-57 win on Senior Night at the Robins Center. Senior forward Jaide Hinds-Clarke led the team with 20 points, her third-straight game scoring 20-plus. Hinds-Clarke was 8-for-12 from the field and grabbed five rebounds.
The Spiders shot 46.0 percent from the field (23-for-50) but couldn't hit from the free throw line missing seven free throws (4-for-11). With the loss, Richmond falls to 14-15 and 7-8 tied for eighth place in the Atlantic 10 standings with one game remaining.
In the fourth quarter, both teams were battling as the game saw five ties and six lead changes. No team built a lead better than five points in the final quarter. Hinds-Clarke led all scorers with seven of her 20 points in the fourth quarter.
