Richmond Ready For Rematch Against VCU In SonaBank P.O.W.E.R. Crosstown Showdown

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team gets a second shot at VCU in the rematch of the SonaBank P.O.W.E.R. Crosstown Showdown on Wednesday, Feb. 5, at 6:30 p.m. at the Robins Center.
CHAPMAN EARNS FIRST CAREER DOUBLE-DOUBLE
Freshman Elaina Chapman earned her first career double-double against St. Bonaventure with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Chapman came off the bench and contributed with three blocks, a career-high four assists and four steals to help Richmond earn an overtime win against the Bonnies. Chapman is second on the team behind Hinds-Clarke in rebounds per game at 5.0.
ABOUT VCU
VCU is 12-9 overall and sits in second place in the Atlantic 10 with a 7-1 record. The Rams had won seven-straight A-10 games before a tough 79-76 home loss to Duquesne on Feb. 2. VCU made a late comeback before suffering their first A-10 loss of the season. The Rams are a perfect 4-0 in A-10 road games with wins at Rhode Island (W, 75-54), at Saint Louis (W, 65-52), at UMass (W, 61-46) and at George Mason (W, 82-63). Tera Reed leads the team in scoring at 15.3 points per game. Danielle Hammond leads the team in blocks with 46 and is second in scoring at 11.2 points per game.
SPIDERS SURPASS WIN TOTAL FROM 2018-19
Richmond finished the 2018-19 season with a 9-21 overall record and were 6-10 in Atlantic 10 play. The Spiders ended the season with a loss in the first round of the A-10 tournament at No. 6 Saint Louis, 58-49. In 2019-20, Richmond is 10-12 overall and 3-5 in A-10 play with eight league games remaining. The Spiders have already surpassed last season's win total with 10 wins.
HISTORY AGAINST VCU
This will be the 84th meeting between the two teams with VCU leading the all-time series 43-40, winning the last three meetings including the first game this season 53-50 on Jan. 17. Jaide Hinds-Clarke hit two free throws to give Richmond a 50-49 lead with 40 seconds left. Taya Robinson hit a floater with 20 seconds left to give VCU a 51-50 lead. The Spiders had two chances and a last second three-point attempt by Kate Klimkiewicz just missed as time expired. In last year's meeting at the Robins Center, VCU earned a 68-43 win after being outscored 42-21 in the final two quarters.
LAST TIME OUT
Richmond improved to 10-12 overall and 3-5 in Atlantic 10 play after a thrilling 63-59 overtime win against St. Bonaventure on Feb. 2. The Spiders finished with four players in double-figures as sophomore Claire Holt led the team with 15 points. Senior Jaide Hinds-Clarke added 13 points and Kate Klimkiewicz scored 11 points, including four in overtime. Freshman Elaina Chapman recorded her first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
In a game that featured 10 lead changes and 14 ties it was close throughout as no team had a lead bigger than 10. The teams were tied 28-28 at halftime and Richmond started to pull away early in the fourth quarter building a 10-point lead at 59-49 with 4:51 remaining. The Bonnies answered with a 12-2 run to tie the game with 40 seconds left. In overtime, the Spiders got the game-winning layup from Jaide Hinds-Clarke with 11 seconds left. Madelyn Neff hit two free throws to make the final 63-59.
