Spiders Travel To Philadelphia For La Salle Rematch

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team will head to Philadelphia for the third time this season for a rematch against Atlantic 10 foe La Salle on Sunday, Feb. 9, at 2 p.m. at Tom Gola arena.
ABOUT LA SALLE
La Salle is 9-13 overall and 3-6 in Atlantic 10 games tied with the Spiders in the standings. The Explorers have won two of their last three games. La Salle holds wins against Saint Joseph's (W, 67-59) and George Mason (W, 77-65). In their last game, the Explorers lost at Fordham, 62-45. Claire Jacobs leads the team in scoring at 13.2 points per game and has hit a team-best 37 three-pointers. Kayla Spruill is second on the team at 10.1 points per game.
HINDS-CLARKE 1K
Senior Jaide Hinds-Clarke scored eight points and grabbed seven rebounds in the loss against VCU, but her fourth-quarter three-pointer gave her 1,000 career points. Hinds-Clarke is the 25th member of the 1,000th scoring club. Hinds-Clarke is 11 points away from passing two members Kristina King (2010-14) and Lauren Tolson (2012-17).
HOLT FIVE-STRAIGHT GAMES IN DOUBLE-FIGURES
Sophomore Claire Holt has been on fire lately scoring 10 points or more in five-straight games. Holt leads the team in scoring in Atlantic 10 play at 13.3 points per game in nine games. Holt has shot 73.0 percent from the free throw line (27-for-37). The streak started with 10 points against La Salle and has continued against Davidson (14 points), at UMass (13 points), vs. St. Bonaventure (15 points) and 16 points vs. VCU.
SPIDERS SURPASS WIN TOTAL FROM 2018-19
Richmond finished the 2018-19 season with a 9-21 overall record and were 6-10 in Atlantic 10 play. The Spiders ended the season with a loss in the first round of the A-10 tournament at No. 6 Saint Louis, 58-49. In 2019-20, Richmond is 10-13 overall and 3-6 in A-10 play with seven league games remaining. The Spiders have already surpassed last season's win total with 10 wins.
HISTORY AGAINST LA SALLE
This will be will be the 30th meeting all-time between the two teams with Richmond holding a 22-7 overall record. The Spiders have won the last five meetings, including a close game on Jan. 23, 63-61. La Salle had a last second chance to take the lead but missed a layup with four seconds left. Jaide Hinds-Clarke finished with 11 points and eight rebounds. Claire Holt added 10 points and Aniyah Carpenter had 11 points off the bench in the two-point win. Richmond is 15-1 against La Salle in the last 16 meetings, including seven-straight wins on the road at Tom Gola arena.

The Spiders held a 17-12 lead after the first quarter but VCU's length and size bothered Richmond in the paint. The Rams finished the game with nine blocks.
Richmond shot 28.8 percent from the field (15-for-52) and scored a season-low 42 points. Sophomore Aniyah Carpenter added eight points off the bench and senior Jaide Hinds-Clarke scored eight points to record her 1,000th career point.
VCU's Taya Robinson had a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Richmond did cut the lead to 51-40 in the fourth quarter but couldn't get any closer.
