Spiders Set For A-10 Championship Quarterfinal At Dayton

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team will face a tough test against top-seeded Dayton to open the 2020 Atlantic 10 Championship quarterfinals on Friday, March 6, at 11:30 a.m. at UD Arena.
SPIDERS EARN TRIP TO TOP-SEED DAYTON
Richmond continues postseason play after taking down No. 8 George Washington 57-49 on March 3 on the road at the Smith Center. The Spiders will face the No. 1 seed on the road on Friday, March 6, at 11 a.m. Richmond improved to 13-18 all-time in Atlantic 10 Tournament games. Last season, the Spiders lost on the road at Saint Louis 58-49 almost pulling off an upset as the No. 11 seed. The last NCAA Tournament berth for Richmond was on March 20, 2005 in a loss to Florida State 87-54.
ABOUT DAYTON
Dayton is the top seed in the 2020 Atlantic 10 Championship and is hosting the Championship at UD Arena. The Flyers are receiving votes in the top-25 poll and are 22-8 with a 15-1 A-10 record. Shauna Green was named A-10 Coach of the Year and Jayla Scaife was named A-10 All-Conference First Team. Scaife is averaging 13.0 points per game and Erin Whalen is second on the team at 12.5 points per game and has hit 58 three-pointers.
HINDS-CLARKE NAMED TO A-10 ALL-CONFERENCE THIRD TEAM
Senior Jaide Hinds-Clarke was named to the A-10 All-Conference Third Team on Thursday, March 5. Hinds-Clarke led the Spiders in scoring at 11.5 points per game and 6.1 rebounds per game. Hinds-Clarke was second in the A-10 in steals with 59 on the season. Hinds-Clarke led the team with three double-doubles this season. She also scored a career-high 22 points in a win at St. Bonaventure. Hinds-Clarke has scored 1,110 career points, good for 17th all-time in program history. Her 122 career games is tied for 13th most in school history.
HISTORY AGAINST DAYTON
This will be the 27th meeting in the all-time series with Dayton leading 16-10 and has won the last 13 games. In the previous matchup, the Flyers earned a 65-51 win at the Robins Center on Jan. 12, 2020. Alex Parson led the team with 15 points but the Spiders were outscored 21-10 in the second quarter. This will be the third postseason meeting between the two teams and second time Dayton has been the No. 1 seed. On March 2, 2018, Dayton earned a tough 67-58 win at the Richmond Coliseum in the 2018 A-10 Championship. Richmond was within two points in the fourth quarter but the Flyers held on for the win. In 2009, Richmond earned a 54-48 win in the A-10 Championship semifinal in Charlotte.
LAST TIME OUT
Richmond got sweet revenge just three days after a 10-point road loss at GW and flipped the switch in a 57-49 road win in the Atlantic 10 Championship First Round. The Spiders picked up their eighth road win of the season after only one road win last season.
Richmond had two players in double-figures with sophomore Kate Klimkiewicz leading the way with 15 points off 6-for-9 shooting. Sophomore Claire Holt scored 10 points, including a clutch three-pointer late to put the game out of reach. Richmond shot 43.1 percent from the field (22-for-51) and 42.9 percent (9-for-21) from the three-point line. The Spiders outscored GW 19-10 in the fourth quarter.
Richmond had 21 bench points with nine coming from freshman Elaina Chapman and seven from sophomore Aniyah Carpenter. The Spiders move on to face top-seeded Dayton on Friday, March 6, at 11 a.m. at UD Arena.
