Rob Jones, Marcus Jenkins Named Top-5 Assistant Coaches in Atlantic 10

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -- Richmond men's basketball associate head coaches Rob Jones and Marcus Jenkins were ranked among the top five assistant coaches in the Atlantic 10 in a survey of their peers conducted by Stadium Basketball Insider Jeff Goodman. The poll of at least 20 other coaches in the A-10 asked each to identify the top assistants in the conference. Jones and Jenkins finished tied for fifth, making Richmond one of two teams to have multiple coaches represented along with Dayton.
Rob Jones is entering his 16th season on the Richmond staff and his sixth as associate head coach. A fellow A-10 assistant anonymously told Goodman that Jones "always appears to be someone (Chris) Mooney leans on from a tactical perspective" and that he "appears to have a great connection to the players when you watch him interact with them," while Mooney said that Jones is "the hardest-working person I know."
2020-21 will be Jenkins third season as an associate head coach with the Spiders and his 10th overall on the Richmond staff. An A-10 assistant credited Jenkins with helping Richmond return to the top tier of the conference last season. "Recruiting and developing multiple all-league players — coaching one of the best offenses statistically — shows that he has greatly impacted Richmond's resurgence. No doubt Marcus should be running his own program soon," the assistant told Goodman. Mooney added that Jenkins has "excelled in every aspect of college coaching."
Other coaches identified as among the top assistants in the Atlantic 10 in Goodman's survey were St. Bonaventure's Steve Curran, Will Bailey of Saint Louis, Rhode Island's Kevin Sutton, George Mason's Duane Simpkins, and Anthony Solomon and Ricardo Greer of Dayton.
