
Geiersbach Scores 150th Career Goal in Women’s Lacrosse Win at ODU

NORFOLK, Va. – University of Richmond attack Sam Geiersbach notched her 150th career goal to open the second half of the Spiders victory 19-2 victory over Old Dominion Sunday at L.R. Hill Sports Complex.
Geierbach, who was named to the 2021 Tewaaraton Award Watch List earlier in the week, tallied the 150th goal of her career on her fourth of five goals on the day. While pacing the Spiders offense, the West Babylon, N.Y. native also chipped in two assists and two ground balls for seven points in the game. Geiersbach's 151 total career goals ties her for eighth-all time with Ashley Friend (04-07).
Ten more Spiders (4-1) got in on the scoring barrage, including Arden Tierney (Port Washington, N.Y.) tallying her second-straight hat trick of the season along with three assists and four draw controls. Lindsey Frank (Gansevoort, N.Y) also turned in a seven-point day, dishing out five assists and scoring two goals, while adding four ground balls, three draw controls and three caused turnovers.
Madison Ostrick (Medford, N.Y.) also scored twice and had an assist for the Spiders, while tallying two caused turnovers and a draw control.
Freshman Ali Susskind (Bay Shore, N.Y.) got the Richmond offense on the board first with a goal just 35 second into the game. Marina Miller (Wexford, Pa.) and Nicole Concannon (Syosset, N.Y.) also added first half goals for the Spiders.
Evelyn Roberts (Memphis, Tenn.), Kendall Duffy (Sinking Spring, Pa.), Mekenzie Montgomery(Hainesport, N.J.) and Leah Kenny (Rye, N.Y.) all picked up second half goals.
The Spider defense, led by seven saves from Megan Gianforte (Brielle, N.J.), held ODU to only 20 shots in the contest, with only 11 on goal. While all four Richmond goalies saw action for the second-straight game, sophomore Emilie Bloyer (Eden Prairie, Minn.) picked up three saves while freshman Nicole Burney (Yardley, Pa.) had two saves.
Richmond tallied 41 shots in the game with 28 coming on goal and were able to limit their turnovers to just 10, with only two coming in the second half. The Spiders also held the advantage in ground balls (16-15), draw controls (12-11) and free position shots (8-2).
The Spiders return to action Friday March 26 to open Atlantic 10 play at George Washington. Opening draw in Washington, D.C. is set for 4 p.m.
