The Spider offense went for seven hits in the contest, led by a 2-for-4 effort from Anthony Forte (Hoffman Estates, Ill.). Alden Mathes (Broomall, Pa.) and Rich Ciufo (Medford, N.Y.) each finished 1-for-2, Mathes with an RBI, Ciufo with a double and scored a run. Dominic Toso (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Johnny Hipsman (Chester, N.Y.) each added a hit, Hipsman's a double and Toso drove in a run.
Jacob Marcus (Malvern, Pa.) got the start on the hill, going 1.1 innings with three strikeouts. Josh Willitts (Southampton, N.J.) suffered the loss, going 2.2 innings, giving up two hits and four earned runs to go with four strikeouts. Nolan Collins (Rancho Palos, Verdes, Calif.), Collin Lowe (Ridgefield, Conn.), Brenden Argomaniz (Claremont, Calif.), Antonio Balduccci (Mechanicsville, Va.) and Matthew Plisko (Alpharetta, Ga.) all threw less than an inning with Collins, Argomaniz and Plisko picking up strikeouts. Jarrad DeLarso (Marlton, N.J.) threw a season-high 1.1 innings, striking out two hitters.
The Spiders jumped out to an early lead, scoring five runs in the bottom of the first. Ulrich led off with a walk and Blakely drew another walk to put two on. Back-to-back singles to center field from Toso and Forte put the Spiders up 2-0. A walk loaded them up for Sprague-Lott who lined a double to the wall in left center to clear the bases and give Richmond the 5-0 lead.
Davidson answered in the next half inning, scoring four runs. A lead-off single and a hit by pitch started the inning and a double from Alex Fedje-Johnson drove in the first run. A sacrifice fly brought in the second and a two-run homer from Ruben Fontes cut the lead to 5-4, Spiders.
Richmond added a solo run in the fourth. Ciufo led off with a double to the gap in right center, moved up on a sacrifice bunt and scored when Mathes legged out an infield hit.
The Wildcats took a big lead in the top of the fifth, scoring seven runs on five hits to go up 11-6. After a solo Spider run in the bottom of the frame, Davidson kept the pressure on, scoring six more runs in the sixth.
After both teams went scoreless in the seventh, Davidson earned the win due to the Atlantic 10 Conference's 10-run rule.
Richmond returns to Pitt Field Friday afternoon as it will host the Dayton Flyers in a four-game A-10 series to close out the home portion of the 2021 schedule.
