RICHMOND, Va. – Incoming University of Richmond field hockey freshman Stevie Drum has been selected as an inaugural member of the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) High School Impact Senior Team, the association announced June 15.
Â
Drum, a native of Virginia Beach, Va, is one of 156 members of the graduating class of 2021 whose senior seasons may have been impacted by COVID-19. The NFHCA committee designed the award to honor the entirety of senior student-athletes' careers and particularly recognize an individual's accomplishments on and off the pitch, distinguished leadership, and team achievement.
Â
Student-athletes had to meet three of five character criteria — covering items like community service and leadership roles — and five of ten athletic criteria to be eligible for recognition. The impact that the graduating class of 2021 has had on their communities is prolific and diverse, from serving in leadership positions at their high schools to volunteering their time with a myriad of charitable organizations, ranging from food pantries to children's hospitals. On the pitch, these seniors have not only broken records and received many athletic accolades, they have also served as team captains, been models of sporting behavior, and helped lead their teams to postseason runs.
Â
With the Frank W. Cox High squad, Drum joins the Spiders after scoring 100 goals in her prep career at Frank W Cox High. She was a VHSL Class 5 First Team All-State and All-Tidewater honoree after helping her team to a Class 5 State Championship in 2019.
