Tierney’s Career Day Lifts #19 Women’s Lacrosse Over Wofford

Richmond, Va.— Arden Tierney reached two major career milestones Sunday as the #19 Spiders took down Wofford at home, 19-6.
The junior recorded 14 draw controls to break her own school record of 13 set in last year's season opener against Radford.
Not only did Tierney break the single-game draw controls record, but the she also reached the 150 mark for career draw controls with her 11th today.
Last game, she recorded her 100th career point with a goal in the third quarter, today she added to those numbers with four more points including a hat trick and an assist.
Tierney wasn't the only one with a hat trick Sunday. Freshman Grace Muldoon recorded three goals and two assists, Sophia DiCenso netted three and an assist and Hannah Custer potted another three.
From there, the scoring was spread out as Colleen Quinn (4 assists), Lindsey Frank (1 assist), Nicole Concannon, Marina Miller, Maggie Jordan, Kendall Duffy and Lauren Kingsbury all added another goal. Sarah Roycroft also chipped in a helper.
The Spiders (6-2) dominated the Terriers (1-5) from start to finish, netting 10 goals in the first quarter, before adding a subsequent five in the second and two each in the third and fourth. Wofford scored just one in the first and fourth and two in the middle quarters as it played catchup with the high-powered UR offense all day.
All four Spider goalkeepers saw time in net. Delaney Galvin earned the win with four saves, Daniela Stelcer came in during the second, Emilie Bloyer recorded a stop in the third and Nicole Burney added another in the fourth.
Richmond was a perfect 15-15 on clears and more-than-doubled Wofford's draw control and ground balls tally with 19, while the Terriers had eight in each category.
Richmond jumps into Atlantic 10 conference play next week when it travels to La Salle on Friday, March 25th before visiting George Washington on Sunday, March 27. Game times are set for 1 p.m. both days.
