#17/19 Spiders Open Conference Play with Road Win at La Salle

Philadelphia— The #17/19 Richmond women's lacrosse team opened conference play with a road win Friday, using a 9-1 halftime advantage to pass La Salle 14-8 at McCarthy Stadium.
La Salle worked its way back in the second half with seven goals including a 5-0 run between the third and fourth quarters, but the Spiders (7-2, 1-0) escaped the Explorers (2-7, 0-1) to win its first of two A-10 opening weekend games.
Richmond got off to a 4-1 lead after the first quarter when Sophia DiCenso added two goals and Kendall Duffy found Colleen Quinn for one before scoring one of her own on a successful free position attempt. La Salle scored its only goal of the half with just over a minute left in the quarter.
From there, the Spiders overpowered the Explorers in the second quarter, holding the home team scoreless while DiCenso scored another to secure a hat trick, Hannah Custer and Colleen Quinn chipped in one apiece and Lindsey Frank scored two, both off passes by Arden Tierney, to eclipse the 100 career points mark.
Nicole Concannon scored the first goal of the second half on a free position attempt, then La Salle scored its second to make it 10-2. Tierney caught a pass from Grace Muldoon and scored for her first goal of the game before scoring one unassisted just under two minutes later for the Spiders' largest lead of the day. La Salle added another, DiCenso scored her fourth for a new single-game career-high and finally the Explorers netted another to close out the third.
The fourth quarter was all La Salle as the Explorers fought back, scoring four quick goals within the first ten minutes of the quarter, but a Lauren Kingsbury goal in the final minutes secured the 14-8 Richmond victory.
Delaney Galvin earned the win in net with nine saves, while La Salle used two keepers in its loss.
The Spiders dominated the possession game, winning draw controls,17-9, and outshooting the Explorers 40-20.
DiCenso scooped four ground balls, while herself, Tierney and Caroline Atkinson each caused two turnovers.
Up next, the Spiders travel to Washington, D.C. to take on George Washington at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
