Gipson, Gersky Homer in Series Finale at Saint Louis

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The University of Richmond baseball team dropped the Atlantic 10 Conference rubber match against Saint Louis Sunday, 12-4, at the Billikens Sports Center.
Richmond returns to Pitt Field to host Norfolk State Tuesday with first pitch set for 2:30 p.m. on ESPN-Plus.
Christian Beal (Flossmoor, Ill.) extended his on-base streak to 27 games with a base hit to open the game, but was erased on a double play.
The Spiders (14-14, 1-5) got on the scoreboard first in the second inning connecting a walk by Jared Sprague-Lott (Philadelphia, Pa.) and back-to-back base hits from Will Gersky (Woodbury, Conn.) and Shane Gipson (Chicago, Ill.) all with two outs to take a 1-0 lead.
Richmond starter Jeremy Neff (West Palm Beach, Fla.) didn't allow a hit through 2.2 innings, and tossed four scoreless of his 5.2 innings of work. Neff allowed three runs on seven hits, two strikeouts and one walk.
Down 3-1 heading into the top of the seventh, Gipson led off the inning with a solo home run for his second hit of the day and second home run of the series.
Saint Louis tagged Spider relievers Vincent Corso (West Harrison, N.Y.) and Dane Armson (Montoursville, Pa.) with six runs on four hits, one walk and two UR errors in the bottom of the seventh, to go up 9-2. The Billikens added three more runs in the bottom of the eighth as Antonio Balducci (Mechanicsville, Va.), Cole Hentschel (Pine Bush, N.Y.) and Matthew Anderson (Pointe Vedra Beach, Fla.) all tallied an out in the frame.
In the top of the ninth, Sprague-Lott led off the inning with his second hit of the day, going 2-for-2 with two walks. Gersky followed with a towering shot off the rightfield foul pole for his team-leading sixth home run of the season.
