Baseball Falls to Davidson 8-7 in 11 innings

The final game of the series is set for Sunday at Wilson Field with first pitch at 1 p.m. on ESPN-Plus.
Richmond opened the game with two runs on a base hit by Christian Beal (Flossmoor, Ill.) and Alden Mathes (Broomall, Pa.) walk.
Davidson answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame, all via home runs, off of Spider starter Brock Weirather (Polk City, Fla.). Weirather got out of the first and settled to throw 4.1 more innings, including tossing four scoreless innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out eight.
Richmond took the lead in the second, scoring two runs with two outs. Jason Neff (West Palm Beach, Fla.) and Chase Conklin (Mullica Hill, N.J.) drew back-to-back walks to flip the line-up back to the top. Beal collected his second his second of three hits of the day with an RBI single to left, scoring Neff. Mathes followed with a base hit to score Conklin.
Davidson scored four in the sixth, knocking out Weirather. Dane Armson (Montoursville, Pa.) came in to face two batters before handing the ball off to Eli Larson (Mill Valley, Calif.). Larson went 4.1 innings, striking out a career-high 11 of the 13 batters he faced and walked one.
In the top of the eighth, Andrew Papantonis (Lebanon Township, N.J.) got hit by the pitch and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Johnny Hipsman (Chester, N.Y.) doubled to center to score Papantonis to get within two runs at 7-5.
Richmond got back-to-back solo home runs from Mathes and Dominic Toso (Philadelphia, Pa.) to tie the game and send it to the 10th.
The Spiders loaded the bases on walks, but were unable to score. Larson collected retired the Wildcats in order all via the strikeout.
In the 11th, Hipsman collected his third hit of the day, but he was stranded.
Rob Ready (Cape May, N.J) took over for Larson in the bottom of the 11th. Ready (1-1) got tagged with the loss after loading the bases on two walks and a hit batter and forced in the winning run with a walk. Ready also collected a strikeout in the inning.
