Sparks, Md.— Graduate students Brittney Wright and Delaney Galvin have been named All-American Honorable Mentions by USA Lacrosse Magazine, as announced by the publication Tuesday.
The two-time Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year and the leader on Richmond's No. 13 national-ranked scoring defense, Wright takes home the honor after consistently matching up with her opponent's offensive leaders, limiting their output.
Most notably, Wright held Stanford's Ashley Humphrey to two points (2 assists) while she led the country with 6.67 points per game and had 84 assists on the season while ranking first in the country in assists per game (4.67). She held A-10 Offensive Player of the Year, Saint Joseph's Lauren Figura, to two goals while she lead the conference in goals per game with 4.20. She held Davidson's Erin Cooke to just one goal and one assist. Cooke was Davidson's points leader (67) and ranked first in the conference in assists (37).
Wright earned USA Lacrosse Magazine NCAA Division I Preseason All-America Third Team honors in December and was named an Inside Lacrosse NCAA Division I Preseason All-American Honorable Mention and Inside Lacrosse's preseason A-10 Defensive Player of the Year in January. She was also named the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week for April 4 after standout performances against Duquesne and Saint Joseph's.
In the cage, Delaney Galvin ended her career as the NCAA's Div. I active career leader in saves with 724 and second in saves per game with 10.81. As a team, Galvin helped earn the Spiders the No. 13 scoring defense in the country (9.50 GAA) and No. 9 ranking in saves percentage (.501) in 2022. Individually, Galvin ended the year ranked fifth in the NCAA in saves percentage (.508) and 13th in total saves (169) while helping the Spiders put together a 14-4 record.
