RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond Baseball team fell 18-7 to Rider in a misty Friday afternoon contest at Pitt Field. The loss drops Richmond to 6-7 on the season, while Rider moves to 9-4 on the year. The squads will be back at Pitt Field for a 1 p.m. start on Saturday on ESPN+.

The Spiders got on the board in the bottom of the first when Jason Neff doubled in Alden Mathes.

Rider took the lead for a short time in the third, scoring two runs on Spider starter Brenden Argomaniz. He scattered two runs, one earned, on three hits, two hit batters and a walk with three strikeouts over three innings of work.

Richmond regained the lead in the bottom half of the third. Johnny Hipsman extended his hitting streak to seven games with an RBI double. Jake Elbeery found the right center gap then scored on Jared Sprague-Lott's 363-foot blast to left field for a 4-2 lead.

Rider pushed a run across in the fifth, off of Spider reliever Esteban Rodriguez. Rodriguez tossed four innings in relief, scattering one run on two hits and two walks, matching a season-high six strikeouts.

Sprague-Lott put the Spiders up 6-3 in the seventh inning when he launched a 395-foot two-run home run, his second on the day and third of the season, to left field. Hipsman collected an RBI single to right to push Richmond's lead to 7-3 in the eighth.

Mathes retired the Broncs in order all by strikeout in the eighth. Rider posted 15 runs on nine hits, four walks, a hit batter and one UR error in the top of the ninth; six on Mathes, three on Sammy Senders, and six on Brian Reinke. Shane Gipson also made his first appearance on the mound, allowing a hit and getting the final out of the game.
