Spider Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader Against Siena

RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond Baseball swept the Saturday doubleheader against Siena at Pitt Field, taking game one, 6-0, and the second game, 5-1.
The Spiders, now 9-10 on the season, and the Saints (2-15) finish the weekend series on Sunday with a noon first pitch on ESPN+.
Game one starter Brock Weirather tossed a season-high eight innings in the shutout victory. Weirather scattered three hits and one hit batter with seven strikeouts to pick up his second victory of the season.
Jordan Jaffe got the Spiders on the board in the second with a two-out base hit to right to score Jared Sprague-Lott from first. Mikey Kluska led off the third inning with a solo home run over the left field fence for his second homer of the season.
In the third, Kluska scored on Jason Neff's sacrifice fly to right to push the Spiders lead to 3-0. Jake Elbeery picked up his first of two hits on the day to score Christian Beal and Alden Mathes with a hit to right. Richmond tacked on a sixth run in the eighth, when Elbeery scored on Zach Lass' base hit.
In the second game, the Spiders got on the board in the third inning when Jason Neff pushed in Mathes after he legged out a double down the right field line.
Richmond added three in the fifth inning, all with two outs. Beal and Mathes both scored on Johnny Hipsman's bases loaded single through the infield. Elbeery picked up Neff from second with a base hit to right to push the Spiders lead to 4-0. Kluska picked up Jaffe with a sacrifice fly to right in the sixth.
Game two Spider starter Brenden Argomaniz tossed five scoreless innings, scattering two hits and three walks with three strikeouts over five innings of work. The Spiders held the Saints scoreless until the seventh inning. Richmond reliever Esteban Rodriguez tossed four innings, allowing one run on four hits with six strikeouts, including three in the top of the ninth.
